Community Involvement:

 

Mexican American Studies/ Raza Studies Student Recognition Event- Coordinated an event to honor junior and senior students in the Tucson Unified School District, in the areas of academics, volunteer service, fine arts, and athletics before the university, community and parents. (2007-2008)

 

Adelante Student Leadership Conference – Co-coordinated a daylong Latino student leadership conference for college bound high school juniors, which covered a wide range of topics centered on servant leadership and college readiness. (2007-2008)

 

Xinatchtli Youth Leadership Conference– Served on the planning and advisory board committee which helped put together this leadership conference for high school students throughout Tucson.  It provided skills and speakers on community relations, leadership, and social activism.  (2007-2008)

 

Unity Festival– Coordinated students to put together a hip hop concert and festival to celebrate Tucson High’s multicultural classes and groups.  In particular it was a celebration of TUSD Raza Studies 10th year anniversary.  Brought in several musicians and artists from East Los Angeles and community vendors.  (2008)

 

Arizona Cesar Chavez Holiday Coalition- Co-Chair of the march committee which coordinated the permits, laid out march route and rally layout and entertainment.  Also main coordinator of the Chavez week leadership speaker series that brings in speakers into schools throughout Tucson to speak about Chavez’s legacy and core values.  (2007-2008)

 

TUSD Student Encuentros – Helped teachers coordinated student, parent gatherings to present current projects being studied in class.

 

Ruben Salazar US Stamp Issuance Ceremony- Speaker at the event on Ruben Salazar’s contributions to history and the community.  Served as panel speaker on Ruben Salazar and the Chicano Movement. (2007-2008)

Mexican American Studies and Research Center’s Bi-national Immigration Project on Migrant Mistreatment- Research information to implement immigration institute that evaluates mistreatment on migrants, the Border Patrol Agencies, and immigration policies. (2004)
